The Jalur Gemilang was flown at half mast throughout the country on the Day of National Mourning on 22 August 2014. The Day of National Mourning was declared by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in conjunction with the arrival of the remains of victims in the Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flight MH17 tragedy aimed at expressing sadness of the Malaysian people over the tragedy. The MAS flight MH17, which carried 283 passengers and 15 crew members, was flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, when it was believed to have been shot down in Ukraine.

AirAsia X, the long-haul arm of budget carrier AirAsia has suspend one of their senior first officer after the officer posting up a public message on Facebook denying the crash of MAS flight MH370 and suggesting that the Government was hiding information pertaining to the airliner.
“AirAsia X senior first officer has been suspended pending investigation as company policies were broken in Facebook posting,” group chief executive officer Tony Fernandes said in a tweet.
